The Equality Model is a framework for healthy, non-abusive relationships. This model contrasts with the Power and Control Model by promoting equality and fairness.
It highlights principles like open communication, mutual decision-making, economic partnership, and negotiation. The Equality Model helps individuals recognize and build relationships based on mutual respect and equal power.
The Equality Model
The Power and Control Model, also known as the Duluth Model, explains how abusers use various tactics to dominate their victims.
The main idea is that domestic violence is about gaining and keeping power over the victim, not just about physical harm. Understanding this helps identify the various forms of abuse and the behaviors used by abusers.
